The Perfect Cadance
An extract from Sonata for Cello & Piano by Claude Debussy
The fourth bar from the end of my absolute favourite bit of this whole sonata. It’s so simple yet incredibly beautiful. You can just tell Debussy had always had those two chords somewhere in the back of his mind, and definitely wanted to write it in a piece - they could not have been used more effectively. I do bloody love the Cello as well. I’m desperately trying to persuade my friend into letting me give me her recording of it! When/if I get it, I’ll definitely have to ask permission to post it here - it’s really good! For now, listen to Pierre Fournier & Francis Poulenc (yes, actual Poulenc)!
